About Bromelain Games
Bromelain Games produces print-and-play escape rooms. These are story-driven puzzle games provided as printable PDF files. They are played with paper and scissors and supported by a free companion app.
The games
The Secret of Langton Manor is a five-episode Victorian-Gothic mystery set in a decaying English manor in 1922. Episode 1, Legacy, is free. Roots, Shadows and Decay follow. The finale, Echoes, closes the story.
The Green Star is a standalone game set in Maine in 1953, released January 2026. It shares a world with the manor but needs no prior knowledge of it, so it can be played first.
Individual games cost $4.99 to $5.99.
How they play
An episode takes one to two hours for one to four players. The pages print single-sided and read clearly without a color printer. Scissors, a pen and sometimes a ruler are needed to play. A game can be printed again for another session. The puzzles are solved on paper through cutting, folding, aligning and deduction.
The companion app verifies answers, provides hints and tracks optional time and scores. The app is free, runs in a web browser and requires no download.
How it started
The inspiration for our current games came from playing a tabletop escape game that required players to destroy components to solve puzzles.
The same hands-on experience could be created in a printable format, so players wouldn't have to destroy a boxed game. This became the core concept for our print-and-play escape rooms.
Initially, the games were designed to be purely paper-based. However, checking solutions and getting hints proved cumbersome in a print-and-play format.
Drawing on our background in mobile game development, a free companion app was created to handle these functions.
The first episode of The Secret of Langton Manor was released for free on itch.io to test the concept. After a positive reception from players, we started developing the full episodic series.
The name
